CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION

Over the past fifteen years, illegal catches of various types of fish has been widespread in Hormozgan province. In addition to such illegal catches and failure of Iranian government to stop, we witness that in 2018 government allowed the Chinese owned trawlers to operate in southern waters of Iran (Sea of Oman). All these illegal and unregulated activities in Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman will cause the extinction of various aquatic species in the next ten years.

We are at a critical juncture wherein many countries are on the threshold of a water crisis while simultaneously facing a number of extreme challenges.

As it is discussed further, the problem in Iran is the management of water and financial resources. Whenever these two interact, a problem like Hamedan and Sharekord will occur, and this can happen to any other region besides these two cities. There may be water but no money. Let us move the water. So, in fact, in the story of drought, we should think about physical water shortage, but economic water shortage is related to financial resources, in the case of the cities such as Hamedan, Sharekord and South East the country. There have been various water transfer plans but for the wrong purpose. This year's current problem was evident from last year and the plans that were supposed to bring water to these locations.

These including the plan to transfer water from the Bijar dam or the inter-basin plan, which have been delayed due to the lack of financial resources. We see the same issue in the Ghadir project. Ghadir is also a good project and it is supposed to bring water to Khuzestan, province, south west of the country, but financial problems prevent the project from moving forward.
